“King of Pop” brings to mind one name: Michael Jackson. Born on Aug. 29, 1958, Jasckson began his career at the age of eight with the group “The Jackson 5.” Soon after, he rose to success with a solo career. His extraordinary contribution to the music industry has lasted longer than almost any artist in history. In 1982, when “Thriller” was released, Jackson set a new standard for music by creating a cinematic music video. “Thriller” was and remains the best selling album of all time.
Jackson created the timeless dance move, the “moonwalk,” in 1983, which revolutionized dance and has been mimicked by the masses for decades. The Moonman trophy, given to winners at the Video Music Awards, was initially created for Michael Jackson in honor of the release of the hit album “Thriller.”
Jackson's continuation in the music business ended abruptly with his death from questionable medical probles on June 25, 2009. His death shocked the world. Countless tributes to “The King of Pop” took place shortly after the discovery of music’s great loss. The age range of Jackson’s fan base ranges between 5 to 95 years old. Janet Jackson preformed ‘Scream” (a duo she made with Michael during the 90’s) at the 2009 VMA’s in honor of her late brother. The performance was filled with emotion, and expressed Janet’s love for him.
Things were not always great for Jackson, he had brief legal issues that ended with lawsuits. He also accumulated a lot of debt throughout his life. But “The King of Pop” will not be remembered for his legal troubles. He shall be remembered for the feel-good music that entered our homes, reaching all generations, and songs that not only had catchy beats, but lyrical content that touched your soul. “Bad,” “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Billy Jean” are just a few of his hits, but we should all should “Remember the Time” of Michael Jackson.
