In July of 2006, Queens College was the recipient of the National Relevance Award from Cisco Systems for its outstanding Continuing Education Program, which helps students make the transition from the classroom to the office.

Queens College's Regional Training Academy was competing with 8,000 other schools to win this prestigious award. The college, along with partner Cisco Systems, has been providing training and support to local academy instructors, IT technicians, engineers and students for the past five years. Queens College currently administers 21 local networking academies.

Students receive certification upon completing the Cisco courses at the Queens College Training Academy. 85 percent of those certified were placed in well-paid computer jobs for leading industries, such as Time Warner, Cablevision, Verizon and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Jonathan Gilad, the President of the Political Science Club stated that "this national award is proof of another level of Queens College's excellence."

To learn more about Queens College's Continuing Education Program and its certification courses, as well as career opportunities, an open house will take place on Monday, September 18, 2006 on the fourth floor of the Student Union from six to eight p.m. Students who attend will receive a 5 percent discount for the fees of the Continuing Education Program courses, in addition to a chance to win free classes in one of three raffle drawings.
