Professor Forbes I. Hill, a Queens College media studies professor since 1964, passed away on Nov. 5.
"He was a beloved member of the faculty and continued to teach for us until three weeks ago, when he could no longer because of health reasons," said Richard Maxwell, chair of the media studies department. "He was a great teacher. The thing about it was he loved teaching so much that he put a lot of energy to it."
In the 1980s, he was chairman of communication arts, now known as the department of media studies. He continued to teach part time after his retirement in 2003, until a few weeks ago.
Hill was chapter chairman of the Professional Staff Congress at QC in the 1970s. He was active in local political and community organizations in Brooklyn. He was also a longtime member of the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims and was a member of their choir.
A memorial service was held for him on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, located on 75 Hicks St. (at the corner of Orange Street) in Brooklyn Heights.
